Dolochimps are a unique species of GELF (Genetically Engineered Lifeform), featuring the head of a dolphin, the body of a chimpanzee, and the powerful legs of giant locust. Their advanced dolphin intelligence, paired with the dexterity of their chimpanzee , made them perfectly suited for complex administrative roles for the Space Corps.
History[]
In Doug Naylor's Last Human, Dolochimps are an unusual species of chimera-type GELFs, combining the heads of intelligent dolphins, the agile bodies of chimpanzees, and the powerful, spring-like legs of giant locusts. This bizarre combination of traits made them highly versatile and effective, both physically and mentally.
Within the Great GELF State, Dolochimps were entrusted with significant responsibilities, holding key positions in government, judiciary, and civil service. Their dolphin intellect gave them sharp cognitive abilities, making them ideal for strategic planning and decision-making, while their chimpanzee bodies provided the dexterity and physical capability needed for multitasking. The locust-like legs, though seemingly out of place, gave them great mobility, allowing them to move quickly and efficiently through various environments.
As administrators, Dolochimps were instrumental in maintaining the bureaucracy of the GELF State, managing everything from public policy to law enforcement. Their unique physiology and intelligence made them indispensable to the functioning of GELF society, providing a combination of mental acumen and physical prowess that few other species could match. Despite their odd appearance, Dolochimps were respected and valued for their contributions to the smooth operation of the state’s governance systems.
Notes[]
The species Dolochimps has never appeared in the Red Dwarf television series. They are exclusively featured in Doug Naylor's novel Last Human.
