In Living Memory is a comic story published in Red Dwarf Smegazine issue 9.
Summary[]
While exploring a planet once inhabited by the Cat People, the crew of Red Dwarf find a machine that is capable of creating things from memory. Lister creates a six-eyed monster, and the crew flee back to Red Dwarf. Rimmer steals a Starbug with a pair of Skutters and travels back to the planet. Rimmer makes himself a new body with the machine, which is greatly improved on his original form. Lister, Kryten, and Cat come to rescue Rimmer, and once again encounter the six-eyed monster. During their escape, the newly created Rimmer attacks the monster, allowing the others to escape whilst sacrificing himself. Lister waits a while before bringing Rimmer back as a hologram, not wanting the old Rimmer back.
