Revenge of the Surfboarding Killer Bikini Vampire Girls was a film with which Lister was very familiar.
Award-Winning Escape Plan[]
Lister had a penchant for horror movies. Many of these, according to Kryten, involved "scantily clad, kung-fu fighting lady vampires". ("Epideme")
When the Dwarfers were held captive by Legion, Lister developed a plan for escape based on the exploits of one of the characters from Revenge of the Surfboarding Killer Bikini Vampire Girls, a film that had passed his shipmates by.
The lead character from the movie, a "good looking, unconventional journalist who wore glasses and a tight sweater", had become trapped in a vampire girl lair and used a dummy to fool the vampire so that she could creep up behind her and attack. In homage to this classic scene, Lister dressed a statue in his own clothes and placed it at the breakfast table with a smiley face drawn on it. Rimmer then greeted Legion and tried to distract him, so that Lister could hit Legion with another sculpture.
Unfortunately, Legion had all of Lister's knowledge and saw through the ruse easily. He described it as a "schlock plan" and beat the statue to one side. Lister still managed to catch a glancing blow with the sculpture, knocking Legion's mask off, so the plan was a partial success. ("Legion")
