Santa Claus, also known as Father Christmas, was a folklore figure from Earth, closely associated with the Christian holiday of Christmas (December 25th) which celebrates the birth of the founder of the religion, and when humans gave each other presents. Santa Claus supposedly lived at the North Pole, where throughout the year he made presents along with the elves. He then travelled the world in his magical sleigh on the evening of December 24th, delivering presents to all the children of the world.

Three million years later, the boys from the Dwarf became trapped in an alternate Earth (HtraE) where time ran backwards. While Kryten and Rimmer wanted to stay, Lister and the Cat wanted to leave. All of them had their own examples of why this world was good or bad. One of the reasons it was bad, according to Lister, is that in this reality Santa Claus was a "bastard." Lister reiterates that "He's the big fat git who sneaks down chimneys and steals all the kid's favorite toys!" ("Backwards", Series III)
The Waxdroid of Santa Claus goes to war on Arnold Rimmer's orders ("Meltdown", Series VI)
A few years later, the Dwarfers became embroiled in a war on Waxworld, a planetary theme park inhabited by Waxdroids of famous historical figures. With the "Heroes" fighting the "Villains", and desperately losing, Rimmer decided to intervene, take command and lead the "Heroes" to victory. Among Rimmer's troops was a Waxdroid of Santa Claus, posted in from the fiction section. Along with all of the Waxdroids on the planet, Santa Claus was killed due to Rimmer's poor tactics and strategy. ("Meltdown", Series IV)

When Kryten and Rimmer argued over whether having a beard makes somebody evil, Kryten argued that this is not the case, citing Jesus and Santa as examples. ("Cured" deleted scene, Series XII)
