Yadretsey was a newspaper published on Earth in a backwards reality.
History[]
When Kryten and Rimmer travelled through a Time Hole, they arrived on Earth at a point where time was running backwards. While looking for work, Kryten picked up a copy of Yadretsey and met up with Rimmer in a cafe, where Rimmer had just observed a woman undrinking a cup of coffee and uneating a chocolate eclair.
The newspaper's front page headline read DIAR KNAB NI EFIL OT THGUORB EERHT, or "Three Brought to Life in Bank Raid".
Translating the reverse-printed paper by switching to reverse mode, Kryten found out that the year was 1993 (or 3991) and read an article about a bank robber named Michael Ellis (or Sille Leahcim), who had recently brought two cashiers and a security guard back to life, sucking bullets out of them with a sawn-off shotgun, in a raid that took place "tomorrow", forced terrified staff to accept £10,000 in unmarked notes, demanding these be placed in the bank's vaults; and had completed a fifteen-year prison sentence for the crime two years ago.
They also looked at the job section, which offered careers such as excellent demotion prospects as Managing Director at ICI, and dish-dirtier at a London restaurant. Rimmer and Kryten also found an advert for a theatrical agent requiring novelty acts, which led to them being employed as The Sensational Reverse Brothers. ("Backwards")
Trivia[]
- Yadretsey's masthead shows the newspaper's name as if it were reflected in a mirror, but the other text is merely spelled right to left.
